A WORD FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT

Winter marks an important point in the school year. It is a time to reflect on what we have accomplished, focus on the remainder of the school year, and continue planning for the future. I also want to take this opportunity to thank our students, staff, families, and community members for their continued support of the Southeastern Local School District. The support of these groups has allowed us to make meaningful progress through targeted facility upgrades and strategic academic enhancements for our students.

This newsletter highlights recent and upcoming facility upgrades, along with academic advancements that are shaping the future of our district.

FACILITY AND OPERATIONAL UPGRADES

Building Safety Review
We have conducted a thorough review of our safety protocols and made modifications where necessary in the following areas:

Tornado drill safe zones
Fire drill evacuation points
Handheld radios for all staff members
Reunification/rally points
Building intruder drills
Staff professional development

Southeastern was awarded a safety grant to install safety film on all exterior windows. This film also includes a tint that reflects summer heat and helps reduce HVAC costs. Installation will be complete by February.

The field house is receiving an upgraded HVAC system to provide year-round temperature control.

Sound systems at the stadium and in the cafetorium have been upgraded to provide higher-quality sound at events.

Facility scheduling software has been implemented to increase efficiency for building usage, transportation requests, technology, and maintenance requests.

The district recently began utilizing an online software system to manage building substitutes.

Scoreboards at all fields have been wrapped with updated graphics and logos.

Academic Upgrades

The “Rally Room,” in partnership with Ohio University Chillicothe, is being utilized at the high school to provide college coursework opportunities for students.

Two high school staff members were approved to begin teaching college-level coursework (College Credit Plus) to our students for the 2026–2027 school year.

Southeastern High School was recently approved for two areas of pre-apprenticeship programming, allowing students the opportunity to gain real-life experience.

Sophomore students recently completed career interest surveys through The GRIT Project and received one-on-one coaching based on their results. These survey results will help guide future projects and programming.

We are very excited about the future of the Southeastern Local School District and will continue to upgrade and maintain our facilities while advancing our academic offerings.

Yours in Education,

Nate Smith
